Annan lets his anti-Israel face show

July 12th, 2006  ·  16 Comments

UN chief Kofi Annan wasted no time in “condemning without reservation” Israel’s military response to Wednesday’s Hizb’allah assault that left seven Israelis dead, eight wounded, and two as captives of the Lebanese terrorists.

While Annan did insist on the immediate release of the abducted Israelis, he notably failed to explicitly condemn the Hizb’allah raid as he had the Israeli counter-action.

Annan was unsurprisingly joined by a chorus of other world leaders urging Israel to “show restraint,” act in a “moderate and proportionate” manner, and not “seek an eye for an eye” following the unprovoked aggression against its citizens.

But they once again failed to offer a viable alternative to overwhelming Israeli force, apparently believing their own toothless demands would be heeded by Hizb’allah.

Hizb’allah is not going to release the Israelis because the world tells it to, just as it clearly is not going to disarm as the world told it to. And allowing the international community to broker another prisoner exchange between Israel and Hizb’allah will certainly encourage additional abductions.

In the absence of a viable alternative, the world would do well to let Israel pursue the one course of action that will best prevent a repeat of today’s events: the annihilation of Hizb’allah.

War is not the answer?

July 9th, 2006  ·  15 Comments

Driving around in Southern California today I noticed a bumper sticker that read “War is not the answer.” I assume it was a liberal jab at President George W. Bush’s going to war against those who attacked this nation a short five years ago.

It got me thinking about the kind of ignorant “happy-in-the-bubble” mindset that would lead to the proud display of such a statement. Continue reading »

Israel must not give in now

July 6th, 2006  ·  3 Comments

International pressure is beginning to mount, the mainstream media is turning nasty, and even the Bush Administration is starting to waver in its support as Operation Summer Rains enters its second week.

But there is also every indication that Israel’s refusal to negotiate and give in to terrorist blackmail is working. Continue reading »

Political correctness breeds confusion

July 5th, 2006  ·  6 Comments

A Russian political commentator argues that modern day political correctness is ineffective when it comes to resolving the Israeli-Arab conflict, and that the two sides should be left to fight it out.

“According to political correctness, bad negotiations are better than a good war. This humane postulate seems beyond question, and therefore all peace initiatives of intermediaries in the Middle East are praised even if they are practically useless. …Political reality is not, and is unlikely to ever become, politically correct.”

The author, Pyotr Romanov, suggests what he admits is today viewed as a “heretical solution”:

“Let the two sides fight it out.”

Romanov goes on to extol the political clarity of the British more than a century ago in realizing there was little that could realistically be done diplomatically to end fighting between the Ottoman Empire and rebel forces in the Balkans, and urging the more emotional Russians to just let the two sides fight it out.

“…the British, who did not know the term ‘political correctness’ then, regarded the problem from the viewpoint of common sense and reason.”

Where was Physicians for Human Rights last week?

July 3rd, 2006  ·  2 Comments

And the hypocrisy continues.

Physicians for Human Rights has issued a wordy statement condemning Israel’s “collective punishment” of Gaza’s Arab population for the numerous terrorist attacks emanating from that area.

Shame this supposedly unbiased and objective organization fails to issue similar statements when the Palestinian Arabs collectively punish Israel by purposely targeting any Jewish men, women and children they can get their hands on, forcing the entire Israeli population to live with a constant degree of fear. Olmert: A little perspective, please

July 3rd, 2006  ·  1 Comment

As the international community makes its expected shift from initially supporting Israel’s right to a military response to last week’s abductions and rocket attacks to shrieking in dismay that said response is causing a “humanitarian crisis,” Prime Minister Ehud Olmert insists on a little perspective.

Rightly does Olmert point out that the “Palestinians” are shooting to kill any Jewish man, women or child they can manage to hit. Israel is simply making life temporarily uncomfortable for the terrorist hordes and the population that harbors and to large degree supports them (as evidenced by Hamas’ sweeping electoral victories).

Israel starts down slippery slope

July 3rd, 2006  ·  4 Comments

According to Ha’aretz, Israel is now seriously considering the release of an untold number of “Palestinian” security prisoners in return for the release of IDF Corporal Gilad Shalit.

This after Prime Minister Ehud Olmert had originally vowed no negotiation with the Hamas terrorists who carried out the abduction or with their overlords in the Palestinian Authority, and no “prisoner exchange.”

On the surface it doesn’t look so unreasonable. The report says Israel is only considering the release of those Hamas officials it rounded up over the past several days and a handful of other prisoners without “blood on their hands.”

In other words, no one who has managed to kill a Jew yet will be set free.

But mark my words, before this is over it will turn into a discussion on the release of any and every type of “Palestinian” prisoner, because to everyone but Israel they are just freedom fighters, prisoners of war if you will. And it is legitimate to trade prisoners of war for other prisoners of war.

This is of course ignoring the fact that a worrying number of prisoners without “blood on their hands” that Israel released as part of other agreements over the past few years turned around and immediately participated in deadly terrorist attacks.

Israel’s self-flagellation continues

June 18th, 2006  ·  3 Comments

Despite evidence that Israel could not possibly have been responsible for the deaths of seven “Palestinian” family members on a Gaza beach last week, the Jewish state’s self-proclaimed leftist “elites” continue to condemn both themselves and their nation. Continue reading »

Annan finds Israel’s innocence ‘strange’

June 14th, 2006  ·  15 Comments

United Nation’s Secretary General Kofi Annan Wednesday found it “strange” that anything other than Jewish arms could be responsible for the deaths of seven “Palestinian” civilians on a Gaza beach last week.I wonder if Annan also found it strange that the Palestinian Authority refused in every way possible to cooperate with an Israeli probe into the tragic event. More civilians killed in Gaza

June 13th, 2006  ·  10 Comments

This time they were in fact killed by Israeli munitions. But their blood is still on the hands of the terrorists who attempted to use the civilians as cover. With more than 100 rockets and mortars fired at Israeli communities since the weekend, the IDF is keen to prevent any further launches before a catastrophe ensues.
