Egypt is a nation without external military threats to its sovereignty. None of its neighbors can threaten Egypt’s territorial sovereignty, yet the United States is arming Egypt at an alarming rate. The only reason Egypt would need a strong army is just in case it decides to go to war against Israel in the future.
This has been a long-standing issue for many, including open-eyed Israeli lawmakers and not a few US congressmen who just do not see the logic in pouring high-quality American arms into Egypt.
To repeat: Egypt has no need of a massive, US-equipped army except to conduct war against Israel, which is the only neighboring country that poses any kind of military challenge, but which has absolutely no designs on Egyptian territory.
So basically the US oversaw a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt, but as part of the deal agreed to arm Egypt for the day that treaty breaks down. Does this make any sense?
Some will argue that as part of that deal, the US also began its massive military aid to Israel. The difference is that Israel does in fact face numerous regional military threats to its sovereignty, and is in great need of a strong military.
Still others will argue that Israel did in the past conquer Egyptian territory, thus the Egyptian request for military aid to deter Israel in the future. Of course, that position ignores the fact that Israel conquered the Sinai Peninsula as a result of repeated Egyptian aggression against and invasions of Israel.
Arming Hamas
The situation is made even more ludicrous by the fact that Egypt is directly facilitating the arming of Hamas and the establishment of Gaza as the world’s most heavily fortified terrorist haven on earth.
A senior Israeli security official revealed this week that an astonishing 40 tons of weapons, including crates of high-grade explosives and advanced anti-tank missiles, have been smuggled into Gaza via the Egyptian Sinai over the past two months alone.
Now, the Gaza-Sinai border is only 8 miles long. It is impossible to bring such an enormous amount of weaponry across the border undetected. We are not talking about hand guns and bags of bullets that can be hidden in luggage. We are talking about crates of explosives and shoulder-mounted missile launchers.
Egypt is allowing the weapons to flow almost unimpeded into Hamas-controlled Gaza at a time when the US is trying to isolate and weaken Hamas. Cairo is also directly facilitating the activities of a group that appears on the US list of recognized terrorist organizations.
How can a nation that is acting contrary to US interests in the region and aiding an enemy in the global war on terror be the second largest recipient of American military aid? Especially when the only possible use of that aid is to wage war against a US ally?

What do you expect when Americas foreign policy is made by a prez who’s holding hands with a Saudi prince? Oil $ is first with Bush and cronies. All else is secondary. As Americans, we count the days when this piece of something stuck to the bottom of your shoes goes back to swamp water Tx.

gregdn - Egypt doesn’t need billions of dollars worth of American tanks, fighter jets and anti-aircraft systems to fight the Muslim Brotherhood.

It’s the same old mantra…. prop up the “moderate” muslim regimes to try and counteract the radical ones. Only problem is they are all islamofacists.

It’s all about money . Anyone that didn’t know that Republicans bow before the $ sign and use religious leaders to get votes for them knows now. They could care less about ethics or religious convictions .

As an American, it seems to me that our national leadership (I am including the Senate and the House of Representatives) have lost their way. We have been moving in this direction for some time now. I don’t think that criticism is helpful. In a time such as this, we who are concerned MUST humble ourselves before God. If we will cry out to Him, He will hear, and He and He alone can move the hearts of those who are in Authority.
I am remembering that the Bible says: “Unless the days be shortened, even the elect will be deceived.” There is great darkness and deception throughout the entire world…..not just in the United States of America. We must have a day by day relationship with God, so that when we pour our hearts out to Him, He will know us and He will move Heaven and Earth for us.
He is in control….He longs to hear from us. He created us and He and only He can calm our fears and guide our paths so that we will know what to do and when and where to do it.
It is most sad to me that past President Jimmy Carter is an old man who has lost his way. He does not love Israel and the Jewish People. He is to be pittied, and he needs prayer. He who claims to have taught Sunday School in his church in Plains Georgia must surely know that Israel is the Apple of God’s Eye. If at some time in his life, a Jewish Person offended him….then he needs to get past it. If President Carter is planning to make it to Heaven, he will have to fellowship daily with Jews who will also be in Heaven.

Appeasement of the Arabs will never succeed in securing peace.
‘Even-handedness’ in supplying weaponry to both sides will also fail to achieve it .
The West has no concept of the primeval mindset behind Islam which dictates its agenda of World domination and the elimination of Israel.
While Israel’s sworn enemies are profusely re-arming and
stock- piling all kinds of weaponry on its borders PM Olmert is dancing with the devil in a drunken delusion - with plans to further diminish Israel’s defensive boundaries and allow the enemy easy access to all areas!

Olmer must go…..OLMERT MUST GO NOW!!!!!!
and it appears that the U. S. Government is playing “Patty Cake” and “footsies” with the enemies of Israel and America…….
