This weekend we watched The Last King of Scotland, and as the movie ended it reminded me that Israel used to defend its people with a level of courage, daring and zeal that I can only call “biblical.”
The movie itself was about Idi Amin’s reign of terror in Uganda in the 1970s. But the final scene of the flick was the 1976 hostage crisis at Entebbe International Airport, when Palestinian terrorists hijacked an Air France plane full of Israelis and Jews and landed it in the Ugandan city certain that Amin would shelter them while they negotiated their demands.
The movie ends before showing any of the raid, but captions following the closing of the final scene note that just hours later Israeli forces stormed Entebbe Airport and freed all but three of the hostages, killing all of the kidnappers, 45 Ugandan soldiers and destroying 11 Ugandan fighter jets in the process. All this was done by a team of only 29 Israelis, who were hundreds of miles from their borders with no possibility of reinforcement or backup.
As I noted above, the level of courage, daring and zeal shown not only by this team of commandos, but by the Israeli leadership in executing such a mission is reminiscent of Israel’s biblical military heroes.
For whatever reason, that same fire seems to have been snuffed out in Israel over the past decade or so, at least among the military and political leaderships. Let’s all pray that God will restore that fire, that warrior spirit of David so that fewer Israelis will become victims of weak political decisions.

You’re so right, Ryan. I also pray for the spirit of David and the Maccabees to rise up. What a day it will be!

Heavenly Father, RESTORE THE FIRE! RAISE UP THE WARRIOR SPIRIT OF DAVID! Place a zeal, an inner strengh from On HIGH within the IDF, and within the Jewish People, and those who live in the Nation and Land of Israel who love the Jewish People!
Father, Raise UP Mighty Men as of old who YOU will endue with POWER FROM HEAVEN. Send such a spirit of fear on the enemies of Israel that they will grow weak and faint from YOUR Power on behalf of your Beloved Land and People.
Father, ENLARGE ISRAEL’S BORDERS, and displace any and all in leadership who would fight against enlarging Israel’s borders. Bring, I pray, those who are not fit to lead Israel to shame and reproach, and Raise Up YOUR Chosen Vessel to lead Israel.
Heavenly Father, with YOU ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE…show the nations of the world who seek to “meddle” in the affairs of Israel that YOU AND YOU ALONE are God. Let hearts fail all who fight against Israel. In the power and authority of the name of Jesus Christ, my Saviour and my Lord I pray. amen and amen

Ryan,
It will truly be a sight when the prophecy of Joel 3:16 comes to fulfillment.
The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.
YBIC,
Michael

I usually do not make many comments on anything coming from a web site like this. However, this time is different. I have seen “The First King of Scotland” which made me want to watch “Raid on Entebbe” again!! Oh for such courage and RIGHTEOUSNESS!! I do pray that Israel will regain these same virtues SOON, with the help of the only ONE who can do this through HIS might!!
Shalom,
Batzion
