Geopolitical assessments regarding the possibility of war spewed by United Nations officials are about as useful as bestowing Nobel Peace Prizes on Islamic terrorists.
But that doesn’t stop the geniuses at the UN from trying to tell those far more experienced than themselves when they should and should not be preparing for the possibility of a conflagration.
And so it was that Austrian general Wolfgang Jilke, commander of the UN Disengagement Observer Force positioned along the Israeli-Syrian border, scoffed this week at Israel’s estimation that Damascus is preparing for war.
Jilke stated that according to what the Syrians had shown him, they were merely repairing defensive positions near the border, and not conducting a military buildup, as Israel charges. Of course, Jilke is certain the Syrians were completely open and transparent about their moves and intentions.
Jilke and his bosses at the UN expect Israel and everyone else listening to accept his view over those of Israeli defense experts. But has the UN ever given anyone a good reason to accept its reading of the situation in conflict zones?
Let’s take just a quick look at the UN’s track record in this regard.
The UN failed miserably in identifying the possibility of and preventing the outbreak of war along the Israeli-Lebanese border, despite having a large “peacekeeping” force deployed in southern Lebanon.
The UN failed to effectively assess the civil strife in Sudan that has now led to a massive unresolved humanitarian crisis in the Darfur region.
The UN failed to adequately read the situation on the ground in Rawanda, allowing some 1 million people to be slaughtered in a completely avoidable orgy of violence.
Those are just a few of the examples from the past 15 years of how useless the UN is when it comes to assessing and preventing global conflicts.
Israel knows what it looks like when its enemies are preparing for war. They have done so on numerous occasions over the past 60 years. So I, for one, am going to continue ignoring the Useless Nobodies (UN) and listening to Israel’s generals when it comes to assessing the possibility of war in this region.

I loved the “Useless Nobodies” (UN) part Ryan! :) It’s always refreshing to hear someone say it like it is. It’s called Truth! How does the world not see through all the endless lies continually fed to them through the UN and the media?? At a time in history when mankind prides himself on how intellectual he has become, he is truly blind to just how big a fool he really is. I guess that’s why the Word tells us that the ‘wisdom’ of the world is foolishness before God, and the foolishness of God is far above all the ‘wisdom’ the world can ever offer. I for one, plan on sticking with God’s ‘foolishness’, and with the IDF’s accessment of the nearness of war. May the Lord bless and keep you through all that is to come, Ryan, and keep telling it like it is!

The UN is nothing but a joke, and I for one am embarrassed, and ashamed, that the U.S. is part of it. It is really hard to understand how the UN could be so naive to believe the Syrians, and their excuses about their intentions. It doesn’t take a genius to see that it is all a deception on the part of the Syrians. And thank God that the IDF has the sense to realize this. And I hope, and pray, that our U.S. government will get the sense that they need to realize this also.

The UN should be the U.M. ( United Muslims). They have always opposed Israel from the start . They created a Jewish state under extreme pressure from Christian Zionist only hoping for it to fail .
The U.N. has endeavored to make Israel defenceless so the Muslims can defeat the Jews . How can the UN pretend to be impartial in their dealings in the Mideast .
I too am ashamed of our involvement with the UN .
