The governing Conservatives in Canada displayed outstanding clarity this week when an opposition lawmaker cited Hizb’allah’s “political wing” as justification for treating with the group’s leadership.
Said Liberal MP Borys Wrzesnewskyj:
“Hizb’allah has a political wing. They have members of Parliament. They have two cabinet ministers. You want to encourage politicians in this military organization so that the centre of gravity shifts to them.”
The response from Conservative MP Jason Kennedy was right on:
“There was another political party in the past which had democratic support, which provided social services, which played an important role in the political life of its country in Germany in the 1930s, which was also dedicated to violence against the Jewish people.
“The world was wrong to negotiate with that party then, and it would be wrong to negotiate with Hizb’allah today.”
Fortunately that understanding is, for now, also keeping the world from insisting that Israel negotiate with the Hamas-led Palestinian Authority. Shame that Bush Sr. and Clinton did not have such clarity when they accepted Yasser Arafat as a national leader and world diplomat, and strong-armed Israel into talks with the “political arm” of his PLO.

A lesson from history (perceived as a fairy tale by many) . . .
King Nebuchadnezzar: The kingdom passes away from you. From mortals are they shoving you, and with the animals of the field is your abode. Herbage will they feed you as oxen. Thus seven seasons shall pass on over you till you shall know that the Supreme is in authority in the kingdom of mortals and to whom He is willing He is giving it.
Given the heart of an animal, from mortals was he shoved, herbage he ate like an ox, the the night mist streaked his frame, till his hair grew like vulture feathers and his fingernails like bird claws.
At the end of the days, I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to the heavens, and my knowledge returned to me. Then I blessed the Supreme, and I lauded and honored Him Who is living for the eon, seeing that His jurisdiction is an eonian jurisdiction, and His kingdom is with generation after generation. All abiding on the earth are reckoned as naught; according to His will IS HE DOING in the army of the heavens and with those abiding on the earth. And no one will actually clap his hands and say to Him, “What are you doing?”
All is out of the Supreme, Who conciliates us to Himself through Christ. He was in Christ, conciliating the world to Himself, not reckoning their offenses to them. Be conciliated to the Supreme, the Placer, the Master inherent of all that is.
