As usual, the international community - minus the United States - is criticizing Israel for not reacting in a “proportionate” manner to Hizb’allah’s aggression against its northern border.
But from a military standpoint, insisting Israel deal with such an attack in a proportionate manner is just stupid. You cannot defeat your enemy if you only respond with the same level of force they used against you. To win, you must be stronger, you must be capable of unleashing MORE force than your enemy.
And then there is the fact that a proportionate response by Israel in this case would consist of indiscriminately firing rockets into Lebanese population centers. Certainly not something the world would countenance.
The only logical conclusion is that the world wants Israel to sit back, let its enemies gain the upper hand and harass the Jewish state into extinction.

Excuse me, but correct me if I am incorrect. The Hezbollah Air Force is truly a dangerous threat. Wait a minute. Hezbollah doesn’t have an Air Force, does it? Well, how about the Hezbollah Navy with all of its sea-faring firepower? Wait another minute! What Navy?
If the IDF can’t take out a few militants firing rockets close to the southern border of Lebanon, why bomb Beirut? That’s a LONG way from the border. We don’t see any missiles being lobbed out of Beirut towards Haifa, do we? So, when you mention proportionate force let’s look at the respective assets of the combatants. Israel is superior in every way yet is getting bogged down. Why? Maybe its because that you can’t defeat fanatics with conventional weaponry. Hiroshima showed that. The Japanese would NEVER have surrendered without facing utter and complete ruin.
But then again, World War II was about territory not religion. And make no mistake about it, this conflict is all about religion. Jihad is “Holy War.” The jihadists care nothing about utter and complete ruin, either for themselves or Israel or for the infidel world they despise. This is what makes them the most dangerous of adversaries, they are the “true believers.”
Their death in combat is rewarded by unspeakable pleasure in their idea of “paradise.” Diplomacy means little or nothing to them. If the Israelis don’t understand the Islamic philosophy of war by now, Israel is doomed. Sooner or later the Syrians or Iranians will ACQUIRE or perfect the Islamic atomic blomb. And will they use it? To destroy infidels? Of course they will. Half-measures in dealing with the muslims will accomplish nothing either in a meeting room or on the battlefield. They have no concept of defeat. Death for them is rewarding and glorious. An enemy of this ilk cannot be defeated. And, that is what is truly terrifying. They would rather see the world destroyed, all for “Allah.”

What is your point Tom . Should they have used neutron bombs to kill all the rats in their holes shooting at them and ambushing them on the way to stop the rockets. I ‘m sure that wouldn’t have escalated into something that would ruin your day, but I believe that will happen soon. Zechariah chapter 14 verse12 speaks of that reality. I believe they showed great restraint .After all we see that Lebanon is claiming that Hezbolla is a major part of their government.
